Dragon Ball Z Season 1 Saiyan Saga Sub Indo
Hey friends i want to share Dragon Ball Z Subtitle indonesia and english here, this season one entitled Saiyan Saga from episode 1-39 End with Subtitle Indonesia And English, so download now ok, thanks for visit.
Is there any anime more influential than Dragon Ball Z? With almost 300 episodes under its belt, DBZ has captivated audiences for years with its brutal action sequences and eclectic roster of characters. During that time, the franchise has its fair share of highs and lows, with jaw-dropping storylines and... less good storylines.
With the recent release of Dragon Ball Super, we thought it would be appropriate to look back at some of DBZ’s strongest and weakest moments. Though most series are split into respective seasons, Dragon Ball Z is usually divided into shorter story arcs known as Sagas, which is what we’ll be using to rank this list. It doesn’t matter if some Sagas are shorter or longer than others. They will each be based on the same grade as everything else which includes writing, animation, storylines, and of course, how epic the fights are.
From Goku’s reveal as a Saiyan to the climactic showdown with Kid Buu, here is Every Dragon Ball Z Saga And Season, Ranked Worst To Best.

Start Now16 Garlic Jr. Saga
The first entry on our list deals with a newly escaped Garlic Jr. from the Dead Zone who seeks revenge by capturing Kami, the guardian of the Earth, and starts wreaking all sorts of havoc. With Goku lost somewhere out in space, it’s up to Krillin and Gohan to put an end to Garlic’s heinous plan.
The weakest Saga in DBZ, the Garlic Jr. Saga was created solely for the anime, because at this time it had already caught up to the events in the manga. The creators scrambled and came up with this storyline, though it probably would have been better had the anime just taken a short hiatus. There are little redeeming factors here, with most of the narrative just dragging along. While there are enjoyable segments, like Kami’s character building, most of it is rather pointless. Especially the new addition of Krillin’s shallow girlfriend, Maron, who gets a shout out for being the most annoying character on the show.
15 Great Saiyaman Saga
Most consider the Great Saiyaman Saga the low point of the Dragon Ball Z franchise, and it’s not hard to see why. All the wonderful and rich character building previously from Gohan, who was originally supposed to become the series' new primary protagonist, is completely thrown out of the window. Instead, Gohan focuses more on his academic studies, and adopts the persona of the Great Saiyaman, a bumbling superhero who would have fit right in with Adam West’s rendition of Batman.
Besides being completely different in tone that the rest of the series, this chapter is frequently lambasted because, in the end, nothing really happens. It chronicles Gohan’s high school years, but they never really amount to anything. It all seems like filler until the next big bad guy shows up. The only plus in this Saga gets is because it introduces Videl, Gohan’s soon to be martial artist wife, who is simply awesome.
14 Namek Saga
If fans thought it was torture waiting around for Goku to show up in the first season, then they must have been pulling their hair out by the time the Namek Saga rolled around. Taking place directly after Vegeta and Goku’s epic battle on Earth, Bulma, Gohan and Krillin journey to the planet Namek to search for the Dragon Balls. During this time the audience patiently waits for some action as Goku recovers in the hospital, waits while Goku finds a spaceship, waits around while Goku continuously trains on the spaceship . . . you can see where this is going.
Honestly, most of the Namek Saga is a lot of searching around for the Dragon Balls, which just isn’t as interesting as seeing characters throw punches at each other. The main hero roles fall on the shoulders of Gohan and Krillin, who continuously get their butts kicked in almost every fight they get into. Thankfully this Saga is not a complete misfire thanks to some increase in Vegeta screen time, and the introduction of main baddie, Frieza.
13 World Tournament Saga
Taking place several years after the events of the Cell Games, the World Tournament Saga has the entire gang of Z Fighters reassemble to compete in the 25th Tenka-ichi Bukokai. Even Goku, who had died previously, is allowed to return to Earth for a day to compete. On paper, this should have made a highly enjoyable Saga, with all the main characters making a comeback to take part in a friendly martial arts tournament, which made the earlier seasons of Dragon Ball such a hit.
Unfortunately, it’s a concept that isn’t fully developed and comes across as rather flat. The tournaments of seasons past worked because they were either more intense or more comedic, and this Saga is lacking in both departments. Though some of it is fun, like the Z fighters mopping the floor with the early competition or watching the blossoming relationship between Gohan and Videl, the World Tournament Saga just doesn’t stack up to some of the other seasons.
12 Babidi Saga
Not quite as comedic as the Great Saiyaman Saga, but not as serious as the Frieza or upcoming Buu storylines, the Babidi Saga is basically a setup of better things to come. Taking place after the World Tournament, the Z Fighters come across the evil wizard Babidi, who is attempting to resurrect the powerful entity known as Buu.
The first half has our heroes easily fight and wipe out every pathetic excuse for a threat in a blink of an eye, which is entertaining to watch but doesn’t exactly hold that much weight. The best part is looking over the very creative monster designs, like Pui Pui or the Demon King Dabura. Eventually the story gets more interesting once Vegeta is taken over by mind control and made to fight his old rival Goku, which is the highlight of the story. The pure spectacle of the fight alone is impressive, even if it is a bit undercut later on when it is revealed that Goku had been hiding his ability to turn Super Saiyan 3 the whole time.
11 Fusion Saga
After the horrific transformation of Buu into the eviler Super Buu, the Z Fighters are forced to resort to extreme measures to combat the new threat. If they have any chance to defeat him, our heroes must combine their powers together with the newly introduced technique of fusion, which merges two fighters into a far stronger single warrior.
It’s the new technique of fusion that breathes new life into Dragon Ball Z’s fifteenth Saga. First we have the cocky and childish fusion of Gotenks, who can be rather annoying at times but has a wide arrange of some of the most creative attacks in DBZ history. Not to mention that at the tail end of this Saga, we have the long awaited fusion of Goku and Vegeta, Vegito, who is crazy strong. The writing here isn’t as tight as it is in earlier seasons, but the scope and length of battles are certainly worth giving this Saga a repeated watch.
10 Perfect Cell Saga
Kicking off our top ten is the storyline in which the dastardly Cell continues his quest to reach his Perfect Form. After absorbing Android 17, Cell begins looking far and wide for Android 18. Little does Cell know that he’ll have to go against a newly powered up Vegeta and Trunks who are standing in his way, and have just ascended to the next Super Saiyan level.
Of course due to Vegeta’s monstrous ego, Cell is able to easily achieve his Perfect Form, leaving the world in dire straits. When the Saiyan Prince finds that the Semi-Perfect Form of Cell is not challenging enough, he allows the villain to absorb Android 18 in hopes it will provide a more suitable fighter. He gets more than he bargained for when Perfect Cell makes short work of both Vegeta and his son.
This short Saga may be a solid addition, but it lacks the unpredictability of the Imperfect Cell Saga or the intensity of the upcoming Cell Games. Still, it’s rather fun to watch Vegeta eat his words after he foolishly underestimates Perfect Cell.
9 Captain Ginyu Saga
With the painfully slow events of the Namaek Saga finally coming to a close, the series picks up again with the introduction of the Ginyu Force, Frieza’s elite fighting team (and occasional dance squad). It kicks off with Goku finally making his way to planet Namek to battle Burter and Jeice, two of Ginyu’s strongest fighters. They’re no match for a newly powered up Goku however, who soon takes on their leader Captain Ginyu. Realizing that he’s no match for the Saiyan, Ginyu performs his body switching technique (“Ginyu is Goku? Goku is Ginyu? What?!”).
This saga has a ton of highlights, most notably the addition of Captain Ginyu who, even though he isn’t the main antagonist of the season, is one of the most entertaining. His body change power and love for dance make him a formidable foe, especially when the Z Fighters are concerned with trying to preserve Goku’s body while still attempting to defeat Ginyu. It’s a battle of wits that unfortunately ends bad with Ginyu’s soul being trapped inside a frog.
8 Kid Buu Saga
The sixteenth and final Saga in the Dragon Ball Z series, the Kid Buu story arc is one with the highest stakes in the entire franchise. It’s hard to believe after Cell and Frieza that the creators of the program could still find ways for new villains to appear threatening, but Kid Buu takes the cake when he successfully destroys planet Earth in a psychotic meltdown. As most of our heroes are obliterated in the blast, it’s up to survivors Goku and Vegeta to defeat the little pink monster once and for all.

The scope and pure spectacle of the final fight in the series is not only one of the best in DBZ, but in all of anime. In one of the few times in the series, Goku and Vegeta actually work together to defeat their opponent, which is maybe something they should have considered from the start. Still, even though Kid Buu is psychotic, he doesn’t quite stack up to more sophisticated villains in the past like Frieza and Cell. That lack of nuance is more than made up for however with Vegeta’s character arc, which is both emotional and thought-provoking.
7 Android Saga
Fans seem to love the Androids Saga for the fact that it’s a crazy mishmash of DBZ and Terminator. All hell breaks loose when the evil Dr. Gero unleashes his deadly Androids to wreak havoc on the world. The Z fighters are forced to initially fight off Androids 19 and 20, but are then taken aback when they realize that they’re just mere warm-ups for Androids 17 and 18, who are complete psychopaths. Things get worse when the Android siblings decide to hunt down and kill Goku in his weakened state, forcing the other Z Fighters into a no-win scenario.
The Androids Saga is a thoroughly enjoyable season that is chalk full of great fights. Unfortunately, Goku, in typical Goku fashion, is absent from most of it due to a heart condition. That’s okay though, because it finally gives room for some of the other Z Fighters to shine. The animation in this Saga starts to noticeably get more crisp and fluent, and the writing also carries far more depth and nuance. Not to mention this Saga features the best filler episode with both Goku and Piccolo learning how to drive. Classic Dragon Ball.
6 Majin Buu Saga
Taking place directly after the Babidi Saga, the evil entity known as Majin Buu is finally awakened from his slumber to exact his evil plan upon the world. And by “evil plan,” we mean turning everyone into candy to eat.
While most DBZ antagonists follow a pattern of being thin muscular men, Majin Buu breaks the cycle by being a gigantic pink blob. Of course Buu later changes into thick, muscular guy later on in the Saga, but fans were still taken aback when it was revealed that the main villain looked like a bubblegum Pillsbury Doughboy with a cape. It's a risk that pays off, with Buu's character standing out from the rest of the pack.
Besides Buu’s unique design, this is also the first time in DBZ that we are introduced to Super Saiyan 3 when Goku reveals he’s been hiding in under his sleeve for most of the season. The initial fight between the Saiyan and Buu, while at times campy, is as action packed as any other DBZ brawl. This Saga also gives Hercule, aka Mr. Satan, his very first story arc by befriending Buu, turning him from an annoying character to a somewhat bearable one.
5 Imperfect Cell Saga
What do you get when you cross The Blob, Alien, Terminator and Dragon Ball? You get Cell, a bio-android designed to be the perfect warrior. Dr. Gero’s ultimate creation, the Saga kicks off when Cell hijacks Trunks’ time machine and journeys back to the present timeline. Once there he starts annihilating humans left and right, and begins a quest to hunt down and absorb the remaining Androids so he can transform into the perfect being.
There’s a certain unpredictability that comes along with the Imperfect Cell Saga that keeps the viewer on their toes. The introduction to Cell isn’t just entertaining, but a bit creepy to boot. For the first time, DBZ enters into the realm of horror as Imperfect Cell travels from place to place, ruthlessly killing humans and then absorbing their remains. Though one of the shorter Sagas and a little slower in pace, it’s unique, well-written, and certainly differentiates itself from the other Sagas.
4 Trunks Saga
Download Dragon Ball Z Full Seasons
One of the shortest Sagas, but featuring one of the coolest characters, the Trunks Saga is a brisk seven episodes that sets off the entire chain of events of the Cell storyline. With Frieza newly resurrected after his bout with Goku, he journeys to Earth to seek some revenge. Upon arrival the tyrant runs into a mysterious fighter named Trunks, who, surprisingly, turns Super Saiyan and quickly cuts Frieza into a million pieces with his sword.
When Goku finally returns to Earth, Trunks reveals that he is actually from the future, and that he has come back to the past to warn the Z Fighters about the upcoming threat of Dr. Gero’s Androids. The remainder of the Saga just has our heroes train, but those first few episodes are enough to make this Saga a fan favorite.
The Trunks Saga is entertaining, and best of all, fast paced. There is little to no filler here, with the animation looking as good as ever and the plot moving right along. This was also before everyone could turn Super Saiyan, so to see someone other than Goku do it absolutely floored fans. Can we just pause for a second and appreciate how cool Trunks’ first transformation into Super Saiyan is?
3 Frieza Saga
The Frieza Saga might be the most popular of the series, featuring the longest fight in not just Dragon Ball Z history, but in all of anime. It finally made good on its promise of a “Super Saiyan,” with Goku reaching the legendary status after seeing his best friend Krillin die at the hands of Frieza. It was clear from the beginning of this showdown that the bout between Goku and Frieza would undoubtedly be a highlight of the series.
Besides the final battle, a surprising amount of characters are all given their time to shine, including a newly powered up Piccolo, and Vegeta, who was just beginning his transformation from villain to antihero. His death, in which he has tears in his eyes as he tells Goku that Frieza was responsible for the destruction of their home planet, is heart-wrenching moment to say the least.
There are tiny faults within the Saga however, like the amount of anime filler which does seem to drag at times. Frieza claims that the planet Namek will blow up in five minutes, when in actuality it’s closer to an hour and a half. Either Frieza is really bad at math, or that blast he sunk into the planet wasn’t as powerful as he thought. Still, Frieza’s math skills aside, the final bout with Goku is indeed legendary, and remains as one of the most influential in the franchise.
2 Saiyan Saga
This first Saga of the DBZ franchise is what catapulted this action-packed anime into the eyes of mainstream audiences. The Saiyan Saga, also referred to as the Vegeta Saga, is heavily based in science fiction and in stark contrast with its predecessor Dragon Ball, which was comedic in tone, was far more violent and brutal from the get-go. Goku’s identity as an alien is revealed for the first time, and we get our first introductions to the tyrannical Saiyan Prince, Vegeta.
Though the animation might not be as beautiful to look at as in later seasons, the Saiyan Saga still has some of the best writing in the entire series. Piccolo’s character arc is an especially interesting one to see evolve when he’s tasked with protecting and training Goku’s infant son, Gohan. The two’s relationship comes to be a defining moment within the series.
The final fight between Goku and Vegeta in a deserted wasteland is the blueprint that set up all others in future seasons. The violent conflict has everything that DBZ fans have come to expect from a fight, including punches, kicks, ki blasts, and giant monkeys. This was also before power levels started to get out of hand, allowing each member of the Z Fighters to play a part in defending Earth. Though Dragon Ball Z has had its fair share of weak moments, this first Saga is still one of its strongest.
1 Cell Games Saga
It’s a tall order to top the final fight of the Frieza Saga, or the influential stylings of the Saiyan Saga, but the Cell Games storyline manages to do all of that, and then some. This season is set during a life or death tournament set up by the villain Cell, who demands a challenge after attaining his new found powers. Knowing that the fate of Earth is on the line, the Z Fighters train like never before, leading to a stunning confrontation between savior of Earth, Goku, and the maniacal Cell. To everyone’s surprise however, Goku admits defeat, acknowledging that Cell’s power greatly surpasses his own. His son Gohan then steps up to the plate, and with his newfound powers unlocked, enters a climatic showdown that will decide the fate of the world.
The Cell Games Saga, while it has some stiff competition, holds the most weight out of any Dragon Ball Z storyline. After many seasons leading up to it, Gohan finally unlocks his hidden potential by reaching the status of Super Saiyan 2. It’s an incredible sight to see when Cell realizes that he’s awoken a sleeping giant, with Gohan easily trumping his opponent in the realm of speed, endurance and strength. It brings everything full circle by providing the end of Gohan’s coming of age story, with a finale that would have been a satisfying enough conclusion on its own if the story had decided to end there. The Cell Games captures everything that makes Dragon Ball Z the influential anime that it is, and takes our pick for the series’ most emotional and action-packed Saga of all time.

The first season of the Dragon Ball Z anime series was directed by Daisuke Nishio and produced by Toei Animation. It contains a single story arc, the Saiyan Saga, which adapts the 17th through the 21st volumes of the Dragon Ballmanga series by Akira Toriyama. The series follows the adventures of Goku. The episodes deal with Goku as he learns about his Saiyan heritage and battles Raditz, Nappa, and Vegeta, three other Saiyans who want Goku to join them and help them destroy life on Earth.
The season initially ran from April 1989 until March 1990 in Japan on Fuji Television. The season was then licensed for a heavily editeddubbed broadcast by Funimation Entertainment. Their adaptation first ran in September 1996 through September 1997 on FOX, UPN and WB affiliate stations in the United States and Canada. The 39 episodes were cut down to a mere 28. Their edited adaptation was syndicated to television by Saban Entertainment, and was released by Geneon Entertainment (then known as Pioneer) on VHS and DVD in 1999. Eventually, Geneon Entertainment lost the license to the first 67 episodes and Funimation began redubbing the series for an uncut broadcast. The unedited version was released on DVD in 2005, but later cancelled and Funimation eventually began releasing season box sets of Dragon Ball Z and they re-released their first season on February 6, 2007. In late 2013, the company re-released the first season box set on the Blu-ray Disc format. In June 2009, Funimation announced that they would be re-releasing Dragon Ball Z in a new seven volume set called the 'Dragon Boxes'. Based on the original series masters with frame-by-frame restoration, the first set was released November 10, 2009.[1]
Two pieces of theme music were used throughout the season. The opening theme, 'Cha-La Head-Cha-La', is performed by Hironobu Kageyama and the ending theme, 'Detekoi Tobikiri Zenkai Power!' (でてこいとびきりZENKAIパワー!Detekoi Tobikiri Zenkai Pawā!, 'Come out, incredible full-force power!') is performed by Manna. The theme for the original 1996—1997 English dub is 'Rock the Dragon', performed by Jeremy Sweet. The uncut English redub from 2005 uses 'Dragon Ball Z Movie theme' by Mark Menza.

Development[edit]
English dub production[edit]
In 1996, Funimation began working on their first season of an English dub Dragon Ball Z. The company had previously produced a dub of Dragon Ball's first 13 episodes and first movie during 1995, but when plans for a second season were cancelled due to lower than expected ratings,[2] they partnered with Saban Entertainment (known at the time for shows such as Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and X-Men) to distribute their adaptation to Fox, UPN and The WB affiliate stations.[3][4][5][2] Heightened exposure from Saban helped ensure a larger audience for the series, which led to Funimation creating a second season.[2] Like the prior Dragon Ball dub, this production used Canadian voice actors from Vancouver, British Columbia. However, this time ADR work was handled by The Ocean Group (now known as Ocean Productions), leading to fans referring to this dub as 'the Ocean dub'.[2][6] Funimation also outsourced the role of music to ex-Saban musician Ron Wasserman, who was allowed to compose the background score from his home in Los Angeles, California.[7] The theme song 'Main Title' (known by fans as 'Rock the Dragon') was created by Saban Entertainment,[2] with the vocals performed by Jeremy Sweet.[6][7]
In 2004, Funimation redubbed these episodes, now with their then-current American voice actors from Dallas, Texas. Unlike the 1996–1997 Ocean/Saban co-production, this dub had no episodes or scenes cut out, and no visual censorship; and while the script was still not based on a translation, they did rewrite it, and even threw in curse words. It featured a new background score by Dallas-based composer Nathan M. Johnson.

| Five years have passed since Goku's victory at the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament. Goku's son, Gohan, is wandering around the woods outside of his house when a tiger steals his hat. While he's looking for the tiger, he accidentally falls into a river. Goku, searching for his son, finds his hat. He suddenly sees Gohan floating down a river, but he can't reach him in time before he goes over a waterfall. Goku looks up and sees Gohan clinging to a branch, having somehow jumped out of the river. With Gohan safe, they head to Master Roshi's house. Meanwhile, a mysterious alien has arrived on Earth looking for a man named Kakarrot. With a special device: the Scouter he wears on his head, he searches for high power levels on Earth. He finds Piccolo, whose attack is completely ineffective. The alien is about to devastate Piccolo when he finds a higher power level and flies off. | |||||

| Goku and Gohan arrive at Master Roshi's island to meet Bulma, Krillin, Master Roshi, and Turtle. Quickly the others notice the difference between Gohan's behavior and that of Goku as a child. Goku informs his friends that Chi Chi refuses to allow Gohan to fight, instead he studies constantly. The same mysterious alien arrives at the island and reveals himself: he is a Saiyan warrior named Raditz, and he is Goku's older brother. He also reveals that Goku's real Saiyan name is Kakarrot. Goku learns that he was sent to destroy all life on Earth, but his memory loss from a terrible fall as a child prevented this outcome. Raditz came to Earth to get Goku to join him and the other two remaining Saiyans, and he won't accept a refusal. | |||||

| In order to get Goku to join him, Raditz kidnaps Gohan and orders Goku to kill 100 Earthlings before the next day. Goku tries to stop him, but not even he could stop his brother's power. Even though he's no match for him, Goku will do whatever it takes to save his son. Krillin and Roshi volunteer to join Goku and save Gohan, however Goku refuses. He tells them that once the Eternal Dragon grants a wish, he will not grant it again, hence the two cannot be resurrected again. Suddenly, Piccolo appears and proposes that he and Goku team up in order to stop Raditz. He had seen Raditz's power while the Saiyan was looking for Goku, and he knows that neither of them are a match for this alien. Raditz returns to the location of his landing pod, leaving Gohan imprisoned in it. His Scouter detects a large power level coming from Gohan, but ignores it thinking that it's malfunctioning. Using the Dragon Radar to find Gohan (with a Dragon Ball on his hat) and Raditz, Goku and Piccolo arrive and shed their equipment, boosting their power levels. | |||||

| Goku and Piccolo throw everything they've got against Raditz, but it seems that even their combined power stops short of Raditz's own strength. Both get injured and Piccolo even loses an arm. However, Piccolo has an idea that might beat him: the Special Beam Cannon, his newest and most powerful technique. But, he has to power up to make it work. He requires five minutes to gather the strength, and Goku does his best to give him that. Despite the fact that the two drastically raise their power levels with heavy concentration, they do not manage to defeat Raditz using their attacks. Suddenly, Goku does manage to grab Raditz's tail, instantly weakening him. Raditz surrenders and Goku releases his tail. However, Raditz quickly attacks Goku again elbowing him in the face and crushing his chest. As Raditz prepares to kill Goku, he suddenly picks up an enormous power level coming from Gohan. | |||||

| As Raditz tortures Goku, Gohan bursts out of Raditz's spaceship and hurls himself into Raditz with incredible power that stuns and injures the Saiyan. However, Gohan's power disappears as quickly as it surfaced, leaving him defenseless against his father's attacker who quickly hits Gohan, knocking him out. Raditz intends to kill Gohan, who he views as the only person capable of defeating him. In a last-ditch effort to save his son, Goku gets Raditz in a hold that leaves both of them open to Piccolo's Special Beam Cannon. Goku urges Piccolo to use it, even if it costs his own life. Piccolo then starts to wonder whether or not he should use it. Despite Raditz's pleas for mercy, Piccolo lets loose his attack, which kills both Goku and Raditz. Thinking they've already won, Piccolo tells Raditz (who's slowly dying) about the Dragon Balls. Once he's heard everything, Raditz tells Piccolo that his Scouter is also a transmitter and that in one year's time, two more Saiyans, more powerful than Raditz, will arrive on Earth to avenge his murder. Goku lives to see Bulma, Roshi and Krillin arrive and hear that the unconscious Gohan is alive, but thereafter dies, his body taken by Kami. Far away in another planet, Nappa and Vegeta plan to visit Earth and wish for immortality using the Dragon Balls. | |||||

| To prepare for this threat, Kami takes Goku to the Other World for training with the legendary martial arts master, King Kai. But in order to get to King Kai, first he must cross a treacherous path called Snake Way. Only one person has ever successfully crossed it, King Yemma. King Yemma tells Goku not to fall off Snake Way or he will never return. Goku starts the long journey by flying over the path, until eventually he runs out of energy and must continue on foot. Back on Planet Earth, Piccolo regnerates his arm and decides to take Gohan (who's still unconscious) under his wing, with the hope of tapping into his hidden power. Piccolo awakens the boy and forces him to train using fear. Bulma studies the circuitry of Raditz's Scouter, and agrees with Master Roshi that Krillin should be the one to tell Chi Chi the recent news of Goku and Gohan. | |||||

| Piccolo leaves Gohan alone in the wilderness for six months so he can learn to take care of himself, just like his father did as a child. Even though there are dangerous animals in the wild, Gohan's hidden powers help him escape, but also get him stuck on a really tall boulder, from which he can't get down. High above, Kami tells Mr. Popo that in a years time, both he and Piccolo will die from unknown causes and that if Piccolo knew this it might have been what caused his slow change of heart towards Gohan. Meanwhile, Krillin tries to break the news about Goku and Gohan to Chi Chi, but is too scared. | |||||

| As Krillin and the others try to find the Dragon Balls after Bulma adjusts the eyepiece for their use. Chi Chi arrives with her father to search for Goku and Gohan, there Master Roshi is forced to tell Chi Chi the truth himself, to which she faints. Yajirobe appears with a task for Krillin: he must bring Yamcha, Tien, and Chiaotzu to Korin Tower in preparation for the Saiyans' arrival, before he leaves he also tells them that Baba is coming to tell them that Goku wishes to be brought back just before the Saiyans' arrival. That night, back at the wilderness, Gohan sees the full moon for the first time and goes through the same transformation as his father once did, becoming a giant ape-like creature, known as a Great Ape. Gohan then went on destroying the Earth, unable to control his new monstrous form and power. With no other way to stop the rampaging Gohan, Piccolo is forced to destroy the moon. Gohan reverts to his normal, naked form, and with no moon, the chance of the transformation ever happening again is gone. Just to be safe, Piccolo pulls Gohan's tail off before giving him new clothes with his symbol on it and a sword. Finally, Piccolo again leaves Gohan by himself. | |||||

| After waking up from his transformation, Gohan finds his tail gone and a new set of clothes that resemble his father's gi. But he has no time to figure out what happened, as hungry animals descend upon him. Gohan escapes, but falls into a cave where he finds an ancient Capsule Corp. robot that's been trapped for over 30 years, and it's not too pleased about having company. Wanting to escape the cave, he seeks the robot for help, but it's not interested. However, the robot lets out his soft side and helps Gohan get some mushrooms to eat. Later when Gohan tries to help the robot escape, the cave starts collapsing and the robot helps him, throwing him to safety. | |||||

| Goku continues his seemingly endless journey on Snake Way. Deep in space, the Saiyan warriors, Vegeta and Nappa, make a stop on a planet called Arlia and 'become prisoners' to their tyrant king. When they are called before the king, they break their bonds and kill the guards. The king summons his giant monster on them, but they easily take care of them both. The other Arlians are grateful of the Saiyans for killing their tyrant king. They proclaim that Vegeta and Nappa will always receive a hero's welcome on Arlia. Despite all of this, Vegeta destroys the entire planet. | |||||

| Goku accidentally falls from Snake Way into Hell, where he finds a fruit tree. Goku is famished, so he tries to take a piece. However, the tree belongs to King Yemma, and the two oni there, Goz and Mez, will do anything it takes to stop Goku from acquiring the fruit. They explain that it is a special fruit that will keep whoever eats it full for a long time. Goz and Mez have their own tests to give. The first wasn't very successful (even though he won), but the second was. To their great surprise, Goku wins the race. Frustrated, they direct Goku to a 'shortcut' back to Snake Way. Goku reveals that he has stolen a piece of fruit from the tree. Unfortunately, this leads back to King Yemma, and Goku must start all over. However, after eating the fruit he is much faster and will not get as tired. | |||||

| Even though Goku has to start all over on Snake Way, he quickly catches up to where he was last thanks to King Yemma's fruit. He sees a castle in up ahead, and assumes it must belong to King Kai. He enters the castle, only to find out that it belongs to Princess Snake. The Princess finds Goku very attractive, so she does everything she can to keep him there. Goku tries several times to leave, but finally, she is forced to show her true form. In her new, horrible form, she captures Goku, but he is able to break free and continue down Snake Way. | |||||

| Piccolo splits himself in half, and the two forms fight each other. Piccolo uses this method to train by himself at a high intensity. Meanwhile, Gohan sleds down a sandy hill. After he crashes, he tries to find a way out of wherever he is to his mother (he thinks his home is close by) After coming to the same spot he originally was at first, he realizes, he must be on an island. | Gohan was able to survive the storm, and he washes up on the shore. There he finds a group of orphans living on their own. The adults in the area are trying to capture them and take them to an orphanage. After telling them his goal, Pigero, their leader, designs a plan to get Gohan home, and get all of the orphans to a safe location. The adults come, and Pigero and Gohan are able to defend themselves against the adults, but Pigero suddenly realizes something: the children will be better off at the orphanage. Knowing this, he lets the adults capture the other orphans. He takes Gohan to the woods near his house, and then drives off. Gohan gets within sight of his home, but decides not to go in. So, Mr. Popo takes them to the Pendulum Room where the past, present, and future intertwine. Gohan looks up at the moon which has mysteriously reappeared, and overcome by his nightmares of Goku's death, he losts control of himself and attacks Piccolo, who has arrived to see what's going on. Piccolo does his best to stop him, but once Gohan grows his tail back and changes into a Great Ape with another gaze at the moon, he was powerless to stop him. Piccolo tries to destroy the moon, but finds that it is a projection from Goku's old spaceship. Piccolo destroys the ship, reversing the transformation. | As Gohan's training gets harder every day, Goku's training with King Kai has just begun. He has about 88 days to prepare for the Saiyans. It turns out that the monkey is not King Kai, but it is his pet. His first task is to catch the monkey, whose name is Bubbles, but it's not going to be easy. The gravity on this tiny planet is 10 times that of Earth, making it hard for Goku to even stand up. Just when Goku is losing hope, he gets inspired after learning that his people withstand different fighting conditions. After three weeks, Goku conquers the gravity and catches Bubbles. | |||||

| Goku's next task in King Kai's training is to hit the grasshopper, Gregory, with a heavy mallet. After a long chase, it seems that Goku can't hit Gregory yet. While taking a break, King Kai tells Goku about the Saiyan people. They were a warrior race who shared a planet with the smarter, though weaker, Tuffles. Eventually, the Saiyans overpowered the Tuffles and stole their technology. Willing to stop the Saiyans from destroying Earth, Goku continues his training and manages to hit Gregory. | After a year of space travel, the two Saiyans, Vegeta and Nappa, arrive on Earth. To celebrate their arrival, Nappa completely destroys East City with ease by creating an energy blast. Sensing their power, the Z Fighters mobilize for an attack. The Saiyans search for any large power levels with their scouters, and they head toward Piccolo and Gohan. Just when Krillin shows up to help, the Saiyans also arrive. Piccolo learns that he is a Namekian, because Vegeta recognizes the green skin that is typical of Namekians. Yajirobe knows the threat as well, but instead of stopping them, he is posing as the leader of the earth's Special Forces to get food. | |||||

| Just to have some fun, Vegeta and Nappa grow some weird creatures, called Saibamen, to test their opponents' strength. Suddenly, Tien, Chiaotzu, and Yamcha arrive to join the battle. Tien is the first to go up against one of the Saibamen. Thanks to his training, Tien easily beats one of them. Angry at his failure, Vegeta destroys the losing Saibaman. Yamcha is up against the next Saibaman, and it seems he, too, is stronger, but his opponent grabs Yamcha and self-destructs, killing them both. | |||||

Angered by losing him, Krillin fights the remaining Saibamen. He fires a powerful energy attack that completely destroys the remaining Saibamen. | As Tien gets beaten up by Nappa, Chiaotzu latches on to Nappa's back and explodes after a telepathic goodbye to Tien. As the smoke clears, it is discovered Nappa has only been slightly wounded by Chiaotzu's attack. Piccolo and Krillin do their best against Nappa, but the Saiyan is much too strong for them. Using all the power he has, Tien fires an attack to avenge his fallen friend, but it is still not enough to stop the rampaging Nappa. | With Tien gone, only Piccolo, Krillin, and Gohan are left to fight, and they begin to wonder when Goku will show up. They tell Vegeta that Goku is far more powerful than any of them, and the Saiyan Prince can't resist the thought of a better fight, as he has grown bored of the relatively weak Earthlings. He tells Nappa that they will wait three hours for Goku. But instead of standing around for three hours, Nappa flies around the world destroying everything in his path to kill some time. Goku arrives on Earth, but he is far away from the battlefield. The three hours are up, so Vegeta tells Nappa to continue the fight.

| As Goku heads toward the battlefield, Piccolo, Krillin, and Gohan devise a plan to stop Nappa: they plan to pull his tail, which will weaken him enough to take him out. As Piccolo grabs Nappa's tail, Gohan rushes to finish the fight. However, it seems that Nappa and Vegeta have evolved past their weaknesses, and they are no longer crippled when their tail is pulled. With their plan a failure, Nappa begins to pound on Piccolo and Krillin. Only Gohan is left to fight, and the young Saiyan is holding his own against Nappa. Enraged by Gohan's attack, Nappa fires a blast at Gohan that could finish him off. | |||||

As Piccolo dies, he tells Gohan that he is his only friend and how sorry he was about going so hard on him during training. With Piccolo dead, Kami and the Dragon Balls are also gone, meaning that no one can be wished back. When all hope seems lost for Earth, Goku finally arrives. Goku avenges all of his friends. Having seen enough of the fight, Vegeta orders Nappa to stop and let him fight Goku. To have some more fun, Nappa decides to attack Gohan and Krillin, only to be stopped by Goku's Kaio-ken attack. Even with Goku using his Kaio-ken technique, Vegeta is still more powerful. Goku has no choice but to try a Kaio-ken x2, but even with this increase in power, he still can't overpower Vegeta. | Thanks to the Kaio-ken x3 technique, Goku has the upper hand against Vegeta, but the Saiyan Prince will not give up so easily. He decides that if he can't beat Goku, he will destroy the Earth. He flies high up in the air and fires his Galick Gun attack. Goku unleashes the Kamehameha wave, and the two energy blasts meet in midair. Goku and Vegeta pour all of their energy into this attack, and after a long struggle, Vegeta's blast is pushing Goku's back, even with Goku using the Kaio-ken x3 attack. With no choice left, Goku uses a Kaio-ken x4 attack, and with the extra power, he is able to blast Vegeta into space. However, Vegeta is able to recover, and he decides to become a Great Ape for his rematch with Goku. The evil Saiyan Prince starts searching for the full moon, but couldn't find it (it's because the moon was destroyed by Piccolo before the Vegeta and Nappa's arrival). Thinking Goku must have blown up the moon just to prevent him from transforming, Vegeta returns to Earth where Goku is completely spent and claims to have a trick up his sleeve. After telling Goku the origin of how Saiyans transform into Great Apes through Blutz Waves: the power of the moon that reaches 17 million zenos, he creates and launches an artificial moon into the sky. Absorbing the Blutz Waves reflecting from the artificial moon, Vegeta begins to transform into a Great Ape as Goku looked on in horror. Meanwhile, Krillin and Gohan feel the tremendous surge in energy coming from the battlefield, and decide to head back.

| By creating an artificial moon with a specialized ball of energy completed with Blutz Waves, Vegeta transforms into a Great Ape. But unlike most other Saiyans, he has complete control of himself while in this transformed state. Luckily, Goku has one last attack that could finish Vegeta: the Spirit Bomb. As Gohan and Krillin return to the battlefield, Goku is able to create the bomb. Vegeta, however, is able to prevent Goku from using it. As Krillin prepares to fire the Destructo Disk and Gohan distracts Vegeta. But, the Saiyan Prince is too smart for their tricks, and foils their plot. As Krillin prepares to unleash the ball, King Kai says not to use his eyes to throw it, but to feel it out. Sensing the right moment, Krillin fires the bomb, but Vegeta is able to dodge it. Goku telepathically communicates with Gohan, telling his son to redirect the blast at Vegeta, who has jumped into the air. Gohan is able to aim it directly at Vegeta, and lands a direct hit. However, Vegeta falls back down to Earth, and recovers from the blast. He blew away the Z Fighters with a giant explosion of energy, but finds that they withstood the blast, separated from each other. | Vegeta attempted to rip off Gohan's tail to prevent him from looking at his artificial moon and transforming, when Yajirobe jumps in and stops him by cutting through his armor with his sword, resulting in a heroic distraction. Gohan recovers, and then on Goku's telepathic commands, he looks at Vegeta's moon and transforms into a Great Ape. However, unlike Vegeta, Gohan can't control himself in this state. But quickly stopped by Goku and Krillin's cries for him to defeat Vegeta, Gohan quickly regains some of his consciousness and resumes the fight, pounding on Vegeta. Vegeta is able to cut off Gohan's tail in midair, but as Gohan falls to Earth, he lands on Vegeta and crushes him before finally reverting to his normal form. Vegeta pulls out his remote and summons his spaceship. As he crawls toward it, Krillin attempts to kill him with Yajirobe's sword. Goku tells him to stop, and let Vegeta go. His life spared, Vegeta promises the Z Fighters revenge when he will return as he leaves the Earth in his spaceship for good. The battle with Vegeta is over. | |||||

Learning of the death of Yamcha, Chiaotzu, Tien, Piccolo, and Kami, the Z Fighters were upset because without the Dragon Balls the others can't be wished back to life again, but Krillin has an idea. He overheard Vegeta saying that it was the Nameks who created the Dragon Balls, so they decide to go to the planet Namek. The only problem is that it will take 4339.2516 years to reach Namek. After getting through what seemed to be all the traps, Bulma, Gohan, and Krillin feast on a table - full of food. They soon figured out that was a mistake after the children with guns holding Bulma hostage came into the picture.
- Notes
- The episode 'Escape from Piccolo' was scheduled to premiere in syndication on November 9, 1996, but was pulled by Saban, due to questionable content. The dub of this episode instead debuted ten months later on VHS, when the second season was airing in syndication. It later premiered on television in September 1998 via Cartoon Network's Toonami block.
- The 1997 dub episodes 'A New Goal... Namek' and 'Friends or Foes?' were produced as part of Saban's second season of the show, and premiered in the fall of 1997, four months after the previous episode 'The Battle Ends.'
- The term Oozaru has been changed to Great Ape as it was used in the live-action movie Dragonball Evolution which Akira Toriyama was not involved in and was not mentioned at all in the series, therefore it is non-canon.
