Pirates of the Caribbean Ride at Disneyland California

If you'll notice, the Wicked Wench does not have a figurehead while the Black Pearl does. This is accurate to the description provided in the book 'Pirates of the Caribbean: The Price of Freedom' by A.C. Aug 4, 2018 - The ship was badly burned when Jack took possession, so one of his first acts (along with getting the ship refitted) was to coat it liberally in.

It starts as a boat ride on the bayou, but before you know it, you're in the middle of a pirate raid, complete with cannons blasting and fires blazing. And Captain Jack Sparrow lurking everywhere at once.

Before you get into the battle, your little boat will go over a couple of small drops, and you'll encounter Jolly Roger, who warns that 'Dead men tell no tales.'

• Fun Factor: Medium to high. It's a classic ride that many people think is a Disneyland must-do. In fact, Pirates is one of the best rides at Disneyland.
• Wait Factor: Use a Fastpass to shorten your time in line
• Fear Factor: Low, but young children are sometimes frightened by the special effects and noise, especially in the battle scene.
• Herky-Jerky Factor: Low for most of the trip, but it includes two short, steep waterfalls. Occasionally the ride vehicles get bumped from behind when approaching the unloading area.
• Nausea Factor: Low
• Seating: Ride vehicles look like flat, wide boats. You step down from the loading area into them. Seating is bench style in rows. Each row holds two to three adults.
• Accessibility: If you're in a wheelchair or ECV, ask any Cast Member how to get to the boarding area. You will have to transfer into the ride vehicles by yourself or with help from your companions. How to Have More Fun on the Pirates of the Caribbean Ride

The Pirates of the Caribbean ride inspired the films starring Johnny Depp. See how many scenes from the movies you can recognize (hint: Jack Sparrow is there three times).

If you sit in the front row of the ride vehicle, you'll get splashed as you make the first, otherwise non-terrifying drop. You may get wet enough to cause a bad hair day, and you're likely to have a soggy bottom, too. If you don't want to put up with all that and end up in the line for the front row, ask the Cast Member in the loading area to move you further back.

That song is going to get stuck in your head, no matter what. One of the best ways to get rid of an earworm like that is to embrace it. Why not give in and memorize a few lines so you can sing along?

Fun Facts About Pirates of the Caribbean Ride

The idea for the Pirates of the Caribbean ride started in 1948 (before Disneyland opened). But it took until 1969 for it to open.

The Pirates of the Caribbean ride uses 750,000 gallons of water to float 46 bateaux - that's the Creole word for boats - carrying 22 guests each. Visitors float past 119 animated characters and 64 human ones. The pirate galleon bombing the village is known as the Wicked Wench.

The first waterfall is 52 feet long and drops 18 feet. The second is a little shorter and drops 13 feet.

Is It Different than Pirates in Florida?

The California Pirates has two drops and a creepy mist screen with a projection of Blackbeard. Both rides are similar from the battling ships section to the end.
