What is BIOS and why would I want to use it?
For those unfamiliar, BIOS stands for Basic Input/Output System. It provides access to changing fundamental settings for your computer, which may be necessary if Windows 10 is acting up. Most of the time, you shouldn’t fiddle around in BIOS. It can change which drives boot up first in case you need to boot from a USB stick instead of the hard drive, for example. You can check the temperature status of the CPU.
It bears repeating: don’t go into BIOS unless you’re an experienced user. It can cause serious damage to your laptop if you don’t know what you’re doing, and ASUS can’t be held responsible for anything you do there.
How to boot into BIOS on an ASUS laptop
It’s easy. Just shut down your laptop, then press and hold the F2 key while pressing the power button. You must continue to hold F2 until BIOS kicks in. After that, you’ll see the EZ Mode, which shows all of the important information you need at a glance. If this isn’t working, your PC may have a fast boot option enabled. To override this, hold shift while clicking Shut Down in the Start menu for a full and complete shut-down.
What can I do in BIOS?
If you need more functions in than what’s on the EZ Mode screen, click Advanced Mode at the bottom, or hit the F7 key. Advanced Mode is broken up into five tabs: Main, Advanced, Boot, Security, and Save & Exit.
The Main tab provides all of the pertinent information for your PC, including version numbers, serial numbers, memory allotments, and system time.
From the Advanced tab, you can flash the hard drive with new data, change configuration for USB or Thunderbolt plugs, configure your network settings, and more.
The Boot tab lets you decide whether to start the PC using system defaults, boot from a USB stick, or another hard drive.

From the Security tab, users can set an administrator password. When you want to limit access from a high level on shared laptops, this can be very helpful.

Once all of your desired changes have been made, the Save & Exit tab will have a whole host of actions, including discarding those changes or resetting to the system defaults.
That should give you a clear idea of what to expect from BIOS on an ASUS laptop. The specific interface may vary from model to model, but the same technique to get in should be consistent across the board. Remember that BIOS is serious business, and that for the most part, you should be able to handle most of your troubleshooting from within Windows 10 proper.
