The special hair and beards and the DLC do not grow; however, if you go back to the default hairstyle, it will grow out. This is so that the special hair and beard styles do not look weird if they were to grow out, since you chose that style because it looked cool
If you equip anything from the DLC, it does not prevent you from having the realistic hair growth the rest of the game. You just have to re-equip the default hair and beard/shave the beard and let it grow on its own.
